Vibrant echinacea for As You See It Challenge #375

Hello everyone and welcome to Friday! I’m in the middle of a busy day of demonstrating at Clarity’s Open Days, but had to drop in to share my design team card for our new challenge at As You See It. Joanne has given us this lovely vibrant colour palette to play with and I’ve put it to use with the Dotted Blooms and Dotted Butterflies stamps, which are in action on my demo desk today as well.

I cut a piece of the 6×4.5″ premium card to a square and stamped several of the largest & middle sized echinacea flowers onto it. I used the new Stamp Pen Pros for this (they are larger than the original Stamp Pens, which made it easy to first ink the flowers with ‘picked raspberry’ Distress Oxide, then line up the stamp on a corner of the ‘wilted violet’ to pick the colour up on the flower centres. The ink was very bold on first stamping, so I stamped it off on copy paper then planted my flowers on the card in second generation ink.

The reusable pre-cut masks that come with the stamps them came into their own! I covered the two lower flowers so that I could add the stems in ‘twisted citron’ without them running through those bottom images, followed by the small leaves.

I’d run low tack tape across the bottom the card when I stamped the stems, so I added it to the three other sides and then brushed ‘salvaged patina’ Distress Oxide in from the edges before adding one of the Dotted Butterflies in the ‘wilted violet’.

I added a little shading to the petals and leaves with Polychromo pencils before using a square embedder and ball tool to emboss a frame around the edge of the topper.

Finally, I found a co-ordinating mount in the Toscana companion papers, then simply attached the topper to a 6×6 card blank.

I’ll no doubt be making more copies of this card today, probably in a range of colours – I do like varying designs slightly. But we’d like to know how you are going to use these four colours on your cards, and look forward to seeing them in our gallery.

Speaking of galleries, I’ll be sharing this card with a few other challenges. The colour board at AAA Colourful picks up these lovely tones too, and my floral theme works for both Beautiful Blossoms and Triple B.
