Hopi Indian lady

And now for something completely different! Let me introduce the new Hopi Indian stamps to you. Barbara drew these following a trip to the US last year – the Hopi people live in North East Arizona where she was travelling and she’ll no doubt have stories about them and the inspiration for these images on today’s Clarity Social TV shows.

This first set is the Hopi Dancers Earth – Spirit of the Plains stamps and I set her against a South West USA background, using one of the Waterside Landscapes mask sets.

My first step as to stamp the outline image onto a 3.5″ square of premium card, setting it on the diagonal. I coloured her in with Pergaliner pencils in Blues, orange & yellow.

I cut a mask for her from Clarity’s blank material, then set about creating the landscape with the mask set using ‘dried marigold’, ‘carved pumpkin’, ‘broken china’, ‘shaded lilac’ and ‘squeezed lemonade’ Distress Oxides – I used stencil brushes to add the main areas of colour, then switched to a spot-on sponge to add the shading and depth of colour in each area.

Next was to add the cacti and grasses from the Wild West Treescape stamp set with black Archival ink, followed by the sentiment from the stamp set. I edged the topper with a Sharpie and sat it on the front of a 6×6 card, having embossed a diagonal frame for it with a square embedder and a ball tool (although that’s difficult to see in the photos!)

These are so different from anything we’ve had from Clarity recently and I love them – they’re such fascinating images. I can’t wait to see what my design team buddies have created with them too – all will be revealed at 10am & 2pm today.
