B for balls at Alphabet Challenge

Hello again crafty friends. It’s a busy day here in my little corner of blogland – here’s my second of today’s offering with a sporty cupcake for our new challenge of B for Balls at Alphabet Challenge. I was trying to think of something different to do, and saw a card on Pinterest where a cake was topped with footballs, so I adapted the idea for my own card using the cupcake from an older New Design Club (which is available as a back issue on Clarity’s website), teamed up with the football from the Sport Frame stamps and one of the Tall Art Deco Sentiments.

First was to stamp the cupcake onto scrap card, shade it with Polychromo pencils and fussy cut it, together with a second piece to layer on the cherry.

I stamped the sentiment onto a 3.5″ square of premium card, then added the cupcake having glued some scrap card on the back of it for a little more dimension.

I needed several footballs to cover the cake, so repeat stamped them onto scrap card, added the black areas with a Perga Colour pen and fussy cut them. I then simply layered them over the icing on my cupcake, finishing with the additional layer for the cherry.

I added a mount of Waimea Falls companion paper and attached it to a 5×5 card blank. I wasn’t totally happy with how the cherry looked, so went over it with a red Perga Colour pen and added a little highlight with my ultra fine white Posca pen.

I think this is a great idea for a topping on masculine cards. This one will be winging it’s way to my friend’s son for his birthday later this month – he supports West Ham football team, hence my choice of colours as they play in claret & blue (although they’ve had a terrible season so not much to celebrate about them!)

This one also picks up a few current challenges, starting with the cake option at AAA Cards and The Male Room‘s food theme. Additionally, this cupcake hasn’t seen the light of day for a few years, so I’m also going to share it with Neglected Stuff challenge!
