masked circle

Welcome to my crafty blog. Today’s card is a one layer offering, inspired by the Facebook live Julie Hickey did yesterday (you can link through to it here). I don’t have the stamp set Julie used, so instead pulled out some of the small accent stamps from a few of her older sets – more about that in a minute. I’ve woven three current challenges into my take on Julie’s card – Global Design Project, Creative Colour Challenges and Hand Stamped Sentiments (I’ve picked up the flowers from their moodboard)

I started with a 5×5 card blank and one of ClarityCrafts’ circle masks, laying it slightly over the folded edge. Next was to lightly blend patches of ‘I started with a 5×5 card blank and one of ClarityCrafts’ circle masks, laying it slightly over the folded edge. Next was to lightly blend patches of ‘mustard seed’ and ‘festive berries’ Distress Oxide around the edge of the mask.

I had taken a few of the little accent stamps from various sets of Julie’s – leafy sprays from ‘sent with love’ and ‘fancy foliage’ and the little flower from ‘daisy blooms’. I stamped the leaves in the ‘festive berries’ onto the red areas and the daisies in ‘mustard seed’ onto the yellow (leaving the circle mask in place). I then lifted the mask off and added the little dotty triangles from ‘sent with love’ around the leaves & flowers, this time with ‘villainous potion’ Distress Oxide.

I filled the centre of the circle with one of the ‘sweet sentiments’ stamps, again using the ‘villainous potion’ Distress Oxide. I had intended to stop there, but felt the card didn’t look quite balanced. I decided the yellow areas needed a bit more definition, so popped the mask back into place and added a few of the little daisies in ‘festive berries’ – just what was needed!

So pleased with how this turned out – and huge thanks to Julie for the brilliant inspiration. I might try this again with different shaped masks and colour combinations…
