Seize the Birthday challenge – card for a child

Welcome to my crafty blog. I’m delighted to have been invited along as the Surprise Birthday Guest at Seize the Birthday‘s new challenge – this week the ‘extra topping’ is to make a ‘card for a child’, but you can just play along with the regular ‘anything goes’ theme if you prefer. I’ve gone with a child’s card for my guest designer offering, and also managed to incorporate some of the elements from FestiveFriday‘s current theme (green, punny sentiment & party hats).

I started by cutting a frame from one of the Stampin’ Up! ‘dandy designs’ papers using a nested die and attached it to a 6×6 card blank. I stamped the branch from Avery Elle’s ‘hoot hoot hooray’ set, coloured it with SU Blends alcohol markers in ‘soft suede’ and ‘granny apple green’, then die cut and added it to the card front.

I’d also stamped and die cut two of the owls and the balloon from the ‘hoot hoot hooray’ set, colouring them with the SU blends and adding in a little ‘poppy parade’ on the hats and present. I used a couple of the skin tones Blends (800 & 900) for the owls’ faces and chests, then sat them on the branch.

I stamped the sentiment in ‘potting soil’ Archival ink and finished with a few lime green Glossies stars.

So do come and join in the party at Seize the Birthday – we’d love to see how you’re inspired!
