deerscape birthday

Hello crafty friends. I’ve been playing with one of my favourite Clarity dies today – the ‘deerscape’. It’s great for masculine cards – I’d usually cut the die into black or dark brown card, but went with a kraft version this time inspired by the colours in The Card Concept‘s photo (the plants also made me think to put trees behind the deer). I’m also going to share it with Happy Little Stampers‘ birthday challenge.

I started with the background and used sponges to drag ‘mowed lawn’ & ‘rustic wilderness’ Distress Oxides down onto white card through Clarity’s ‘pine trees’ mask from their Riverside Landscape Reflection set. I went around the edges and top with a stencil brush that just had a little ‘mowed lawn’ ink on it, to soften the white card.

I cut the deerscape die into a piece of kraft card that sat within the frame, so I didn’t have the top aperture. I brushed ‘walnut stain’ Distress Oxide’ across the deer and the top of the hill to create a shadow effect and then glued the die cut onto the white card.

I finished by attaching the topper to a 6×6 kraft card blank, then stamped ‘happy birthday’ from the KISS ‘bijou ribbon sentiments’ in ‘potting soil’ Archival ink.

Thanks for dropping in. This little scene looks like a lovely spring morning, but sadly was not the case here today – we had light snowfall overnight and it’s been very cold all day. I’m hoping it’s not too long before spring properly appears!
