Hazel’s butterfly

Hello there. Today’s card stars another of the new stamp sets designed by Hazel Eaton for Julie Hickey Designs – the butterfly (in case you hadn’t guessed!) I’ve used the sketch from Global Design Project and the colours from Color Throwdown.

I started by repeat stamping the butterfly definition stamp in black down the side of a square of card that I’d trimmed to fit on a 6×6 card blank. I lined the stamp up in the centre first then worked upwards and downwards – once finished though, I wished I’d started a bit higher up so the ‘butterfly’ word was evenly spaced from the top and the bottom. We are our own worst critics, though, aren’t we? I then edged the card with a black Sharpie & attached it to the card blank.

I next stamped the large butterfly from the set in black Versamark Clair and heat embossed it with WOW’s clear hologram sparkle powder (love the shimmery effect!). I watercoloured the butterfly wings using Distress Oxides in ‘mowed lawn’, ‘picked raspberry’ and ‘mustard seed’. Once dry, I fussy cut the image and attached to the card front using a little glue behind the body.

I stamped the sentiment from ‘daisy blooms’ onto a scrap of card, added a black mount and glued it to the card, finishing with a few yellow Glossies.

I’m really happy with the way the butterfly pops against the monochrome background.
