U for under the weather at Alphabet Challenge

It’s Friday again and there’s a new letter over at Alphabet Challenge. We’re now on to ‘U’ and Meg has opted for ‘under the weather’ (or get well). My card is on a slight tangent, using the new ‘sweet citrus’ set from Stampin’ Up!, but lots of people recommend hot lemon drinks when you’re feeling off colour (sometimes with a dash of whisky for a hot toddy!)

I started with a piece of the retired ‘sunshine & rainbows’ paper, attaching it to a 6×6 card blank. I stamped the fruit in ‘mango melody’, then embossed the die cut pieces with the co-ordinating folder – it does give them lovely realistic dimension. I mounted them both on scrap bits of card and then glued onto the card front.

I stamped the sentiment in ‘mango melody’ and die cut it into a banner. The reverse of the patterned paper had a narrow stripe pattern on it, so I trimmed a mango melody one off and used it to edge the banner. I stamped the leaves in ‘coastal cabana’, due cut them and glued into place.

I stamed a few of the outline flowers using ‘tattered rose’ Distress Oxide, then filled them in with the ink and a waterbrush, finishing with a ‘coastal cabana’ centre. I die cut them and scattered them around the fruit.

So come on over and play at Alphabet – there’s some great inspiration from my design team-mates to help you get started. Our challenge runs until Thursday 26th January. I’m heading over to link this one up with Hand Stamped Sentiments having taken their colour palette, and Atlantic Hearts who inspired my layout.
