Welcome to my crafty blog. I’ve gone a bit patriotic today with red, white & blue as it’s the first day of the long weekend of celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here in the UK. Strawberries are a quintessential British summer fruit as well, and lots of people are having street parties over the next few days, so my card pays homage to them. The colours from The Card Concept‘s photo were perfect for this and I picked up the sketch from Atlantic Hearts
I started by piecing 2cm wide strips of paper onto card that I’d trimmed to fit an A6 card blank. I used the red check from Stampin’ Up!’s ‘berry beautiful’ designer paper pack (now retired) and the blue floral from the ‘paper blooms’ that was in a previous Saleabration – they made me think of tablecloths. I started with the long strip across the centre of the card in the sketch, and the rest then followed. Once all stuck down, I trimmed the strips level with the edge of the mount and then attached it to the card blank.
I punched out three strawberries & leaves from the retired ‘sweet strawberry’ set, then stamped them with Distress Oxides in ‘candied apple’ and ‘mowed lawn’. I glued the hulls onto the strawberries and mounted all the pieces onto a diecut circle before sticking it on the card front.
I finished with one of the sentiments from the ‘berry blessings’ set, which I diecut with a ‘tasteful label’ and then added to the card.
It’s been a beautiful day here today. We were fortunate to have the flypast for today’s Platinum Jubilee parade go over our house on their way in to central London and Buckingham Palace. I had a great view from my back garden – here’s a couple of photos of RAF Typhoon jets forming a ’70’ and the Red Arrows display team as they went over.
