happy birthday star

Welcome to my crafty blog and a birthday card using the new stencil and star dies from Julie` Hickey Designs. I did an online class with Julie recently, which gave me lots of inspiration with these. For this card, I’ve taken the colour palette from Color Throwdown and the theme from Time Out, who are celebrating their 8th birthday! It’s so great to celebrate with the team – they’re one of my favourite challenges.

I strated by trimming a piece fo white card to fit a 6×6 card blank, and then cut one of Claritystamp’s aperture ‘frame-it’ dies around the edge.

I then masked the frame with low tack tape before blending ‘ripe persimmon’, ‘mermaid lagoon’ and ‘mowed lawn’ Distress Oxides through the ‘happy birthday’ stencil. I try to spread the colours randomly, but always seem to end up with them forming diagonal stripes! Maybe I just need to accept that’s my basic patterm and move on… Once dry, I attached the card to a 6×6 kraft card blank.

I used several of the stars from the die set, cutting a larger one n kraft card and the others ion white. I then blended the inks onto them to match the background before gluing them to the card front.

This set makes great masculine cards, which I often struggle with (so many of my cards seem to feature flowers!). Thanks for dropping in – I’ll be back with another card tomorrow

  1. I love the ink blended background – such a fun design with those stars – brilliant use of the colours! Thanks so much for celebrating 8 years with us at TIME OUT!
