birthday stars

Welcome to my crafty blog, and a second play with the new ‘more for the boys’ set from Julie Hickey Designs. I’m doing a two-part online class with Julie & Hazel Eaton this week, so looking forward to more inspiration, but decided to have another try out in the meantime. I thought this set would work well for Jen B’s layout over at Freshly Made Sketches together with Wanda’s colour palette from Color Throwdown.

I started with an A6 piece of white card and repeat stamped the little circle & stars from ‘more for the boys’ around the edge using ‘potting soil’ Archival ink.

I then used a waterbrush and Distress Oxides in ‘chipped sapphire’, ‘speckled egg’ and ‘mowed lawn’ to add colour to the pattern. I just went for rough painting around the circles and shaded in the stars. Once dry, I blended ‘speckled egg’ around the edge of the card and then attached it to a 5×7 card blank.

I used one of the dies from the new ‘you’re a star’ set to cut several star frames and inners in white card. I blended ‘speckled egg’ onto the centre stars and stamped the little pattern onto them in ‘potting soil’. I initially blended ‘walnut stain’ onto the outer frames and then fixed the three stars to the card. I then decided that I didn’t like the brown edges, so recut the frames, blended ‘chipped sapphire’ onto them and glued them over the brown ones. Much better – and helpfully it gave the card a little more dimension!

I finished by stamping the sentiment in ‘chipped sapphire’ onto a strip of white card, which I attached across the panle using foam pads. Just a few green Glossies and it was done.

Thanks for dropping in. If you’re reading this in the UK, I hope you’re safe despite today’s major storm. I’ve just been watching the news with details of all the damage across the country. Things are OK here on the edge of London, and I’m praying it stays that way overnight as Storm Eunice passes. Take care and stay safe everyone.

  1. I am really loving these stars! Gives another option for those masculine designs that are hard for me to come up with. Thanks so much for rocking the colors at CTD!
