first bloom of spring

Hello crafty friends. After the cool winter colours of yesterday’s post, I’ve taken a jump forward today to spring with one of the new ‘seasonal wreath’ stamp sets from Claritystamp. I’ve used the colours from the new challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches, together with the new layout from Freshly Made Sketches.

I started with the ‘spring wreath’ and stamped the two halves onto a piece of white card. I then added a few more flowers and berries with some of the small individual stamps in the set.

I then coloured the image in – I don’t have the SU colours in CASC&S’s palette, so went with the nearest shades I have in Distress Oxides. I used ‘dried marigold’, ‘mowed lawn’ and ‘mustard seed’, and inked the image with a Pergamono blending nib so that I could get the colours into the fine detail.

Once colours, I could see a bit of open space at the top so added the little daisy chain for a better balance and coloured it. I then blended the ‘mowed lawn’ around the edge of the card and mounted it onto a piece of green cardstock, stamping the sentiment into the centre as well.

I was going to put this on a white 5×7 card blank, but decided that the white card was too stark against it so made one from the green card. I attached the topper onto it and finished with one of Clarity’s word stickers.

You may recall that I’ve been trying to use up some of my stash of inky backgrounds on recent cards. Well I have to confess that today hasn’t helped with that, as I mopped up the ink on my craft mat from colouring the wreath and now have another one to add to the pile! I did remember to write the ink colours on the back of this on, and you may well see it on a future card.

  2. This is so pretty Deborah! I love that sentiment but I think for me it’s the combination of words, the dainty floral wreath, the soft green sponged ink along with that green base that makes the whole card so eye-catching! Thanks for playing along over at CAS Colours and Sketches this week!
