birthday flowers

Welcome to my crafty blog and another outing for Stampin’ Up’s ‘artistically inked’ set. I’ve used the colours from the current challenge at Colour INKspiration, which is on Facebook. They aren’t a combination I’d usually pick up myself, but do work really well for floral cards though.

May be an image of flower and text that says 'Eme COLOUR NKSPIRATION CHALLENGES #105 Very Vanilla Mango Melody Fresh Freesia Old Olive'

I started by making a 6×6 card blank from SU’s ‘very vanilla’ cardstock, together with a slightly smaller square to stamp on. I stamped the large flower in freesia, then added the two roses in the mango and the leaves in olive. I have to say, building patterns & images like this is so satisfying.

I added the sentiment in the olive, together with the small dots in olive and mango (I was worried that I’d overcooked it at this point!) I mounted the topper onto a layer of olive card and attached the whole piece to the card blank.

I wasn’t entirely happy with the large flower at this point – stamping the freesia onto the vanilla cardstock had slightly dulled the colour. I decided to restamp the flower onto white card and die cut it, then glued it over the original image, which looked much better (the contrast is more obvious in real life than in these photos).

Thanks for dropping in. I’m off out to dinner tonight with a friend I used to work with who I haven’t seen for about a year – it will be great to catch up on all the gossip!
