D is for dragon – and a design team!

Welcome to my crafty blog and an announcement – I’ve been invited to join the design team for the Alphabet Challenge Blog! Huge thanks to Caz and the team for selecting me to join, and for the lovely warm welcome I’ve had. Today’s card is my first contribution for the Alphabet team for the new challenge of ‘D is for Dragons or Dinosaurs’, and I decided that this stamp from Clarity fitted the bill perfectly.

I’ve also used the sketch from the current Less Is More challenge for my card layout.

I started by stamping the dragon onto a spare piece of Clarity’s ‘Antarctica’ designer paper, and then used my Spectrum Noir pencils to shade the image in co-ordinating colours. Because the pencils are translucent, some of the shading in the paper still shows through, adding to the overall effect. My original plan had been to use an oval die to cut the dragon out, but I then discovered that the best die for it was just slightly too small (message to self – better planning needed!) On to plan B, and I cut the image out using scissors.

I used the oval die to cut a piece of light blue card and glued the dragon to that, which then sat nicely onto a black 6×6 card blank. I added one of Clarity’s word stickers (I like that this continues with the theme of ‘D’ as well!) and finished the card with a few blue Glossies.

We’d love to see your dragon or dinosaur contributions at the Alphabet Challenge Blog – you have until Thursday 3 June to share your creations with us.

  1. Welcome to the DT! Your card is a wonderful take on the challenge, similar to what I had in mind when I’ve chosen the challenge theme. I like the dark card base which adds something mysterious to your dragon, and also matches with your sentiment. Your colouring is great, and I would never guess that hand-cutting the image was not your original plan – I think those tiny bits of dragon that are looking over the edge are just perfect.

    Hugs, Veronika
