Joy to the World at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown 26-40

Hello crafty friends. It’s Seasonal Saturday again with our latest challenge at 52 Christmas Card Thowdown to share with you. This week, it’s a technique challenge and Valentina has opted for a mini scene with shaped dies. I didn’t have any obvious shaped dies in my Clarity stash that would build a scene, so opted for a slightly different route with the Joy to the World Bauble and the shaped die cut topper made to fit them.

The first step was to stamp the bauble outline image onto the topper with black Archival ink. I found this easiest to do by lining up the stamp onto the topper so I knew it was sat correctly, then using one of Clarity’s Mega Mounts with etched lines to position it, so that I could stamp it straight back into place once inked.

I then stamped the image again onto a piece of Antarctica designer paper, fussy cut it and pieced it back onto the bauble topper – I used Pritt glue stick to adhere it. I shaded in the top of the bauble with ‘prussian blue’ Polychromo pencil and a silver gel pen for the little loop.

I cut another piece of the Antarctica paper slightly larger than the topper and attached it to a 6×6 card blank. I glued scrap card onto the back of the topper behind the bauble and around the edges and then adhered it to the card front – the scrap card just lifts it slightly off the card for a little more dimension. The final touch was to use my fine Posca pen to add stars in the sky and fleeces on the sheep!

So there’s my little scene with a shaped die cut – how would you interpret our theme? I’m sharing my design with a couple of other challenges, starting with the sketch at Sunday Stamps (my aperture topper was the perfect find!). My favourite Antarctica paper also fits the bill at Love Those Pretty Papers – I was sad to read that Darlene & Diane had to start a new blog for this challenge after their original one was hacked and all the content lost.
