October’s sketch at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown 26-37

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s Seasonal Saturday card, thanks to our new sketch at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. It gave me the perfect opportunity to crack open the SHAC Build a Bauble stamps that were released last month whilst I was away – these really are fab images and may well find themselves added to my favourites list.

The first step was to cut a 5×5 inch square of premium card. I lined up the sentiment on it to overlap where I wanted the bauble to sit and stamped it into place with black Archival ink. I cut a piece of blank mask material to cover it over and then stamped the Holly Build a Bauble outline over it.

I isolated the bauble with the pre-cut mask from the stamp set (it is helpfully printed with the bauble image, which makes it easy to line up accurately) then added the little church scene from the Mistletoe set.

I brushed ‘uncharted mariner’ and ‘evergreen bough’ into the bauble area, then removed the mask. Keeping the sentiment covered, I coloured the holly leaves with the infill stamp and ‘evergreen bough’.

I shaded in the church with grey Polychromo pencils, using a red one for the holly berries, then removed the mask from the sentiment and outlined it with a micron pen and a ruler. I added a mount of Shenandoah companion paper, attached it to a 6×6 card blank and finished by adding snowy highlights to the church and snowflakes in the sky with an ultra fine Posca pen.

These baubles are just perfect for my favourite clean & simple style cards, and I’ll no doubt be finding lots of opportunities to use them! There’s more inspiration from the rest of the 52CCT design team over on the challenge blog, and we’d love to see your interpretations of our sketch in the gallery.

I’m also going to share this card with a few other challenges, starting with Simply Clean & Simple for their ‘anything goes’ option, together with Merry Little Christmas and Holly & Ivy.
