Embossing at As You See It Challenge #376

Well here we are at Friday once again and this week it’s time for our next challenge over at As You See It. Now LeAnne definitely posed me a challenge with this one as Clarity don’t make embossing folders, which made it a bit difficult to choose a favourite, to say the least! I decided instead to go with a little work around by embossing one of my favourite stencils – the Brick Wall. It takes the embossing really well, just using a rubber shim in my machine, and I added a couple of the new-ish Boho Butterflies for a bit of colour.

So, here’s my starting point with a scrap strip of white card (I’ve got a shed load of these!) embossed with the Brick Wall stencil.

I trimmed it down to fit on a white mount I’d cut for a 6×6 card blank and glued it in place. I then used the little scoring tool on my paper trimmer to score lines above and below the embossed panel, which framed it nicely.

Next was to sort my butterflies. I’ve got quite a few strips from the 5×7 designer card packs, as I like to trim them square for my cards, so I picked one out from the Antarctica set and stamped a couple of butterflies onto it.

I could then fussy cut them (although I was having second thoughts when doing the antennae!) and glue them onto my brick wall panel.

I thought they looked a bit flat, despite the coloured card, so added a little pencil shading to their bodies and base of the wings with a ‘bluish turquiose’ Polychromo pencil. I added one of the Bijou Statement Sentiments in ‘paradise teal’ Archival ink, finishing with several of the little dotty trios from the Enlightenment Mark Maker set.

I may have taken a bit of a lateral approach to this challenge, but we really want to see your favourite embossing folders put to use in the As You See It gallery – do come and share them with us! I’m going to also add this one to the gallery at Inkspirational for their ‘leftovers’ theme – having managed to use up two offcut pieces of card on this one!
