Birthday peonies

Hello crafty friends and welcome to Wednesday! I’ve got another look at the new Dotted Blooms and Sentiment Stalks stamps for you, this time with the flowers from Set 2 – I think these are peonies, but I’m no garden expert so may well be wrong! Anyway, whatever they are I thought they were pretty and my layout for this card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest a while back.

The first step was to cut a piece of premium card to 5×5 square and brushed ‘rustic wilderness’ Distress Oxide onto it, working upwards from the bottom left corner. I took several of the sentiments from both Dotted Blooms sets and stamped them in second generation ‘rustic wilderness’ to create a soft background.

I stamped two of the flowers in ‘candied apple’ Distress Oxide, then added the stems & leaves in ‘rustic wilderness’. I wanted the buds in both red & green and managed that by tapping the stamp on the corner of each inkpad to get both colours on it. Once the ink had dried, I shaded the images with Polychromo pencils (‘light cadmium red’ and ‘permanent green olive’).

I added the main sentiment in the ‘rustic wilderness’, doing it in two parts by masking one word each time so I could offset them rather than the straight line of the stamp. Finally, I added a mount of Rainbow River companion paper and attached it to a 6×6 card blank.

I’ve said it before, but I love the versatility of these stamp sets – so many flowers to choose from and they work in other ways than straight florals too (as you saw in Monday’s post!) Anyway, having stuck with a floral design today, I’m going to share this at 613 Avenue Create for their ‘May flowers’ theme and with Color Dare who inspired the red & green palette.
