K for kitchen

Welcome to my crafty blog and the new theme of K for Kitchen at Alphabet Challenge, which Melanie has chosen. For me, it was an obvious choice of ‘Linda’s Mum’s kitchen’ stamp set from ClarityCrafts, which I’ve had for a while and have to confess had not yet inked into action! I’ve taken a slightly loose interpretation of Emma’s card at Global Design Project on my card, using the colours and a central focus with a surrounding background pattern; I’m also sharing it with Stencil Fun.

I started by stamping the kitchen image onto an offcut of white card and coloured it with Pergaliner pencils. I used grey Polychromos to add shadowing, so it didn’t look so flat, and then fussy cut it.

I created the background using the same technique as on my fish card the other day. This time I brushed ‘chipped sapphire’ Distress Oxides through the ‘stripe box’ stencil onto white card, then rotated it through 90 degrees and repeated it. I was trying to get the effect of a gingham tablecloth.

I mounted the card onto a layer of dark blue and then attached it to a 6×6 card blank. The kitchen dresser topper sat nicely in the centre of the stencilled area – job done!

If you hop on over to Alphabet Challenge, there’s more inspiration from the rest of the design team, and then we’d love to see your kitchen or food themed cards in our gallery. You’ve got until midday UK time on Thursday 7 September to play along.
