happiness is a butterfly…

Hello crafty friends. I’m back with another of ClarityCrafts’ poetry framer stamp sets today, this time happiness is a butterfly. I have to confess, it’s the first time it’s been out of it’s packet but better late than never! I thought it would work well with the colour palette from Color Throwdown and I’m also going to share it with the stencil challenge at Happy Little Stampers

I started with the background on a piece of stencil card that I’d cut at 14cm square. I attached the ‘double vine’ stencil with a hinge of masking tape and brushed ‘speckled egg’ Distress Oxide through it, keeping to the outer edge of the card to leave the centre blank. I then stamped the butterfly frame and the poem into the centre of the card.

This is actually my second attempt at this card. On the first one, I filled in the swirls around the butterflies with a grey Pergacolour pen, but the colour was too heavy. So having started again, I used a Pergamano blending nib and a little ‘hickory smoke’ Distress Oxide, which gave me a much better effect. I then shaded the butterflies with two pink Pergaliner pencils.

To finish, I mounted the card onto a layer of dark grey to give it a narrow border. I added a piece of pink companion paper to the front of a 7×7 card blank and then popped the finished topper in the centre.

It’ve been very hot and sunny here today, and I spotted a few butterflies flitting around the garden – summer is definitely on it’s way!

  1. This is such a pretty and delicate card. Beautifully done and the poem is lovely too. I really like your stenciling and it adds something extra to the design.
