Welcome to my crafty blog! I’ve spent today at ClarityCrafts’ Open Day down in Kent having a great time catching up with friends, meeting new ones and enjoying all the demos. I’m back to my favourite techniques of masking & blending ink on today’s card, inspired by the photo over at Just Add Ink. I used the layout from Freshly Made Sketches, rotating it to fit my design, and am also going to share it with Happy Little Stampers as a second contribution for their stencil challenge.
I started with a piece of white card that I’d cut down to fit on a 5×7 card and covered it with a piece of Clarity’s reusable mask material that I’d previously die cut an oval shape into. I blended Distress Oxides in ‘ripe persimmon’, ‘dried marigold’ and ‘blueprint sketch’ across the card, working from the centre outwards. I laid the ‘seaweed’ across the lower part of the oval and brushed a little more of the ‘blueprint sketch’ through it.
I removed the oval mask and laid one of the ‘build-a-scene’ masks across the centre, adding some scrap paper at the top and a strip of masking tape down each side. I then sponged black Archival ink through the mask to create the landscape. I wanted to add a sun but didn’t want to disrupt the colours of the inks, so popped the outer part of a circle mask over the image and dabbed it with a damp piece of kitchen paper which lifted the ink a little.
I finished it by simply running a Sharpie around the edges, attaching it to the 5×7 card blank and adding one of Clarity’s KISS word stickers.
Thanks for dropping in. I’ve definitely had a brilliant day – it’s always so good to connect with other crafters and get lots of inspiration! Huge thanks are due to the ClarityCrafts team who worked so hard to make the whole event happen.
And just to finish, here’s a summary of the main products I’ve used on this card
Clever use of masks and stencil, thanks for sharing the how to.
