Welcome to my crafty blog. I’m still working on incorporating stencil effects in the backgrounds on my cards, as you can see from today’s offering. This one features the ‘trellis’ stencil from ClarityCrafts, together with the ‘butterfly wreath’ and ‘bijou ribbon sentiments’ stamp sets.

I’ve brought three current challenges together on this card. I took the right hand column of butterfly, stencil & antique from TicTacToe‘s grid, the colours from Hand Stamped Sentiments and the birthday challenge from Happy Little Stampers

I started by brushing ‘tumbled glass’ and ‘specked egg’ ink through the trellis stencil across the centre of a square of white card. I then stamped over the stencilled area using an old script stamp from Clarity (it was part of a journalling stamp set) – I thought this picked up the ‘antique’ element for TicTacToe.

Next was to stamp the two butterflies from the set onto a piece of Clarity’s clear parchment paper – I used clear ink and heat embossed it with WOW’s white powder. I then coloured the burreflies on the reverse of the parchment with Pergacolour pens, using a mango & pink (the pink is a deeper shade than on the colour palette, but the paler pink was too subtle against the parchment.)

I fussy cut both butterflies and attached then to the stencilled background using red liner tape, then stamped the ‘bijou ribbon’ sentiment in ‘watering can’ Archival ink.

I couldn’t find a piece of backing paper the right colour to mount the card on, so simply ran a Sharpie around the edges and then attached it to a 7×7 card blank.

I’m really rather pleased with how this one turned out! Clearly, my practice is paying off.

Very pretty card. I love the background you created with not just stenciling but with stamping over it with a background stamp. The butterflies are so delicate, just like in real life. Thanks for joining us at Happy Little Stampers ~ Birthday Challenge. Apologies for the late comment.
