E for easel card

It’s time for a new theme at Alphabet Challenge where we’ve reached the letter E – Meg has challenged us to create easel cards. Now I normally go for flat front cards, rather than fancy folds, so had to get my thinking cap on for this one! I thought the sketch at The Paper Players would work and picked up the palette from Color Throwdown. The panel features Clarity’s ‘doodle tiles set one’, which is their current Design of the Week – another set that’s seeing action for the first time having sat in my stash for a while!

I started by repeat stamping one of the ‘doodle tiles’ onto a strip of white card using ‘fern green’ Archival ink. As you can see, I used my stamping platform for this, marking the position of the stamp on the base with low tack tape which made it easier to line the card up each time (just moving it down). I did one side first, then turned the stamp round and did the second side, then trimmed the card down and shaded the leaves with green Pergaliner pencils.

I scored a fold across the centre of a 6×6 card front and added a piece of yellow ‘Amazonia’ companion paper. I mounted the stamped panel onto another piece of the yellow, added a layer of green and attached it to the card front (making sure that I only put glue on the bottom half of the panel…!)

I cut a strip of the green using one of the ‘doodle scallop frame-it’ border dies and glued that onto the card. The sentiment is from the ‘floral delights – bouquets & vases’ set, with one of the ‘doodle disc framer’ stamps – I cut it out with a nested circle die and added it, gluing a bit of scrap card onto the back to lift it slightly.

I stamped the sentiment from the ‘enjoy today flowers’ set that I’d used yesterday onto white card using the ‘fern green’, then layered it with yellow & green paper and a final smaller piece of scrap card (so it would sit a bit higher and act as the stop for the easel front). I covered the inside of the card blank with a square of the yellow paper and then glued the stopper sentiment into place.

I really like the Art Deco feel I wound up with on the panel – more by luck than judgement, I have to admit. So how will you create your easel card? We’d love to see you in the Alphabet gallery – the challenge runs until Thursday 15 June, and there’s more inspiration on the blog from the rest of the design team.

And if you want to see more of the ‘doodle tiles’ stamps in action, Barbara Gray is hosting A Moment of Clarity this evening at 7pm (UK time) creating more beauties with them – just click the link for details.
