Mothering Sunday daffs

Hello crafty friends. I’m back in my comfort zone today with plenty of stamping on this card (and a couple of masks, though!) A friend wanted a Mothering Sunday card for her mum (we’re celebrating it in the UK this weekend) so I went back to Stampin’ Up!’s ‘daffodil daydream’ set, which has done good service this year! I based the layout on the sketch at Hand Stamped Sentiments and I’m grateful to The Paper Players for giving me the perfect colour palette!

I started with a 7×7 card blank, took one of Clarity’s ‘nested window’ dies, and popped a few pencil marks on teh card front so I knew where my aperture was going to sit. I then used their clouds mask and ‘broken china’ Distress Oxide to create the sky, adding the ground with the hill from the ‘deerscape’ mask set and ‘mowed lawn’ ink.

I trimmed a piece of SU ‘whisper white’ card to fit the card blank and cut the window die into it. I stamped both sets of flowers from ‘daffodil daydream’, then coloured them using SU Write markers in ‘daffodil delight’ and ‘granny apple green’, with a blender pen – I love the way the blender pen lets you get shading with marker pens. I then die cut the daffodils and glued them into on the inside edge of the aperture. I wanted the topper to stand slightly off the card front, so glued strips of scrap card onto the back and then attached it to the card, adding glue to the back of the flowers as well.

There’s a lovely patterned strip in the ‘daffodil daydream’ set which I’ve hardly used, so I stamped it in ‘bluebird’ Archival ink, then fussy cut it and attached across the bottom of the aperture, to pick up HSS’s sketch. The final step was to add the sentiment, again in the ‘bluebird’ ink – this is a really old wood mounted stamp that I’ve had for donkey’s years!

It’s been a real sunshine & showers spring day here today, but at the moment the sun is shining and the clouds are scudding across a blue sky – not unlike the view on my card. And even better is that the daffodils in my garden are now springing into bloom!
