dotty rainbow

Welcome to my crafty blog and a colourful rainbow to brighten your day. This is a great quote from Maya Angelou and I knew exactly which stamp to use when I saw it was the theme over at Time Out. I’ve teamed it with the colours from the inspiration photo at AAA cards, and their added twist of dots or spots.

So the first step was to stamp the Maya Angelou quote from Clarity Crafts’ ‘Words of Wisdom’ set, using black Versafine Clair ink. I then took several nested circle dies, lined them up on my card and drew a pencil line round the inner edge of each to give me the guide for the rainbow.

I chose four Pergaliner marker pens in the right colours and filled in each stripe of the rainbow in turn just with dots from the pens. I think officially this technique is called pointillism! I let the dots of each colour blend in to the one above & below so it looked a bit more graduated, rather than keeping each colour completely separate. I’d also put a strip of masking tape across the bottom of the rainbow so I had a clean line of dots at the edge. Once done, I used a rubber to take the pencil guidelines out.

I found a co-ordinating piece of card to layer it on and attached it to a 5×5 card blank.

I’d usually shade in the lettering on the stamped image, but left it without this time to keep the contrast with the rainbow colours. I think it worked.
