fresh floral birthday

Hello crafty friends and welcome to another card! I don’t very often used a coloured card base, but it’s good to push yourself from time to time, don’t you think? I’ve really challenged myself as well by picking up the colours from The Paper Players for this one – I generally struggle with combining 4 colours on a card (happiest with just two or three!) and my friend Joanne has very kindly chosen a combination of six this week! Fortunately, I read Joanne’s introduction and it’s not compulsory to use them all, but I did manage to combine 5 into this one. 😊 I’ve also used the new sketch from Atlantic Hearts for my layout and am going to share this with Happy Little Stampers‘ birthday challenge as well.

I started by making a 5×7 card blank from mint card, then cut a white square with one of Julie Hickey’s ‘dinky dies’, which I glued onto the card front. I cut the ‘birthday’ and background using Julie’s profile die set, glued them together and attached those across the square.

I then stamped several of the smaller flowers and leaves from Julie’s ‘fresh florals’ set using ‘watering can’ Archival ink and then coloured them with inks and a waterbrush – SU ‘daffodil delight’, ‘tattered rose’ & ‘dusty concord’ Distress Oxides for the flowers and ‘peeled paint’ for the leaves. I cut them all out with the co-ordinating dies and then attached them to the card using foam pads.

Now I would ahve left it there, but I thought the sentiment was a bit unfinished, so I stamped ‘wishes’ onto the white square using the ‘watering can’ ink. And yes, I know I should have done that before putting it all together!

I took quite a literal interpretation of Atlantic Hearts’ sketch – the flowers work well against the birthday die cut. The only one of The Paper Players’ colours I didn’t manage to pick up was ‘pool party’, but hopefully Joanne won’t mind!
