Welcome to my crafty blog and another Christmas card (I’m on a bit of a roll!) I’ve gone with stamps from the new ‘Peace to You’ set from Stampin’ Up! for this one, which was inspired by the sketch at Atlantic Hearts and the theme of ‘babies’ at As You See It – let’s face it, the Nativity was most definitely baby business! I’ve taken the liberty of flippng AHSC’s sketch vertically, so the sentiment is at the bottom.

I started with a piece of SU’s ‘night of navy’ card and a 5×5 card blank. I wanted to put a pattern on the card – a stars embossing folder would have been ideal but I don’t have one, so plan B was to use one of the retired ‘wrapped in texture’ mini folders instead.

I then stamped the nativity scene from ‘Peace to You’ onto white card using ‘cobalt’ Archival ink. I ran a navy Sharpie pen around the edge to give it a narrow border and then attached it to the card front.

The final step was to add the sentiment. Now I was going stamp it onto a banner to then sit across the base of the topper, but when I tried it I thought it looked too heavy and unbalanced the card. This is where I should have thought it through before gluing everything together, as I decided instead to heat emboss the sentiment in gold directly underneath the image. Not the easiest thing to do when part of your topper is sitting on embossed card, but I got away with it!

I actually made 18 of these this afternoon, ready to put into packs for the fete I’m at on Sunday. I’ve still got some more to do, so a busy couple of days await!
Love this!

I love all the contrasts in your design, Deborah, with the white and the navy together and the white stars and the texture that kind of echoes them on the outside layer. And how creative, to come up with a Christmas card for a baby-themed challenge! That’s thinking outside the box! Thanks for taking on our theme challenge at As You See It Challenges!

Oh Deborah – what a clever take on the theme. Of course Christmas is at heart, a baby tale. I like your simple, but striking, colour choices too. Thanks for joining in with us at As You See It.
