in the sea

Hello crafty friends. Well I’m back after a fab few days away with friends at the New Wine Christian conference – we weren’t anywhere near the sea, so I thought I’d compensate with this card inspired by the theme at AAA Cards which also picks up the left hand diagonal of yellow, blue & water from The Paper Players‘ tic-tac-toe grid.

I started with a square of white card to fit a 6×6 card blank and used my stamping platform to put the large wave from Stampin’ Up!’s ‘waves of inspiration’ set. I initally stamped it in ‘salvaged patina’ Distress Oxide, then partially inked it with ‘broken china’ for a second layer, and finally added a little ‘chipped sapphire’ to put more depth in the wave.

I hadn’t quite lined the stamp up with the edge of the card, so blended a little more of the ‘chipped sapphire’ around the edge of the water. I also lightly blended ‘squeezed lemonade’ above the wave to give the impression of sky and soften the edge of the water line.

I finished by sprinkling and heat embossing a little ultra high WOW powder around the top of the wave to give the impression of sea foam. This can be a bit tricky – I don’t use any ink for this, just hold the card flat, sprinkle a pinch of the powder (as you would with salt), lightly brush off any that’s not where you want it, then heat it from underneath. Love the effect! All I then needed to do was attach it to the card front.

Thanks for dropping in. I haven’t put a sentiment on this one, as a friend has asked me to make several generic cards without words – you’ll no doubt be seeing a few more like this over the next couple of weeks!
