floral frame

Welcome to my crafty blog – today I’ve got a CAS card to share with you using one of the ‘floral frames’ stamps by Julie Hickey. I haven’t used these stamps for a while, but they came straight to mind when I saw the theme of ‘small and few’ over at AAA cards. I’ve coloured them with the new palette from CAS Colours and Sketches and will be sharing it as a second offering for Inkspirational‘s theme of ‘watercolouring’.

The first step was to stamp the floral frame onto a 5×5 card blank using ‘watering can’ Archival ink. I then attached a square of mylar plastic over the stamp and ran a bone folder around the edges on the inside of the card, which gave me the embossed recess frames.

I then set about colouring the image with inks and a waterbrush. I went with the closest matches I have to the CAS Colours & Sketches ones – ‘fired brick’ & ‘peeled paint’ Distress Inks for the flowers & leaves, with ‘salvaged patina’ Distress Oxide for the background.

I finished by stamping one of the small phrases from Julie’s ‘everyday sentiments’ set below the image in the ‘watering can’.

On reflection, I wish I had positioned the floral frame a fraction higher in the embossed recess, so that the sentiment left an even gap at the bottom, but then there are always things to improve on in all my cards (is that just me…?)
