wedding butterfly

Hello there! I’m back with a second card today, this time using the stencil from Claritystamp’s March Craft Club.

I’ve used the colour scheme from this weeks challenge at Color Throwdown and the left hand column of white, wedding & die cut from TicTacToe‘s grid as the basis for my design

I started with a large square of white card, attached the stencil (I used a tiny bit of Blu-Tac under the butterflies) and then brushed ‘salvaged patina’ and ‘twisted citron’ Distress Oxides through it. The ‘twisted citron’ was a bit more yellow than I’d wanted, so I blended a little ‘mowed lawn’ over the top to make it more of a lime green. I edged the card with a black Sharpie and then attached it to a 7×7 card blank, which is larger than I usually use but I thought would be good for a wedding card.

I have to admit that the stencil design looked a little familiar when I first opened the packet, and I then remembered the ‘butterfly tangle’ die from the Craft Club in 2021.

I die cut this in gold card, and trimmed the butterfly from the circle before gluing it onto the card front. I wanted to add a bit more defintion to the plain white butterflies on the stencilled image so popped some aqua Glossies onto them as well.

To finish, I stamped the sentiment onto a die cut banner and heat embossed it in gold with WOW powder.

I thought the effect of the two butterflies overlapping each other worked well for a wedding card, and they’re surrounded by family & friends. (Maybe I’m reading too much into this – it’s only a card after all!) Incidentally, I also make a second topper from this stencil when I came to clean it. There was quite a bit of ink still on it, so I lightly spritzed it with water, laid it on a piece of card and ran it through my embossing machine. Here’s the result – no ink wasted!
