mother’s day blossoms

Welcome to my crafty blog and the first of this year’s Mother’s Day cards – I’m getting ready for next month. I decided to go back to a Stampin’ Up! set that I got last year – ‘blossoms in bloom’, teaming them up with the design from Freshly Made Sketches and a second run at the Color Throwdown palette.

I started by stamping the large blossoms onto white card using ‘broken china’ Distress Oxide, adding a few leaves and the flower centres in ‘mowed lawn’. Once the ink was dry I fussy cut the image.

I then cut the co-ordinating die in gold card. At ts point, I realised I hadn’t planned ahead properly (nothing new there!) as I’d stamped the leaves around the flowers in places that didn’t match the die! I trimmed the die cut down so it just had the flowers left and then glued it to sit on top of the stamped image. I left the centres of the flowers in place (they hadn’t cut through the thick card very well) as I like the gold effect.

I attached a strip of Claritystamp’s ‘Antarctica’ paper across the front of a 7×7 card blank and added the flowers on top using foam pads.

I finished by die cutting a tag, blending the ‘mowed lawn’ into it and dried it well with a heat gun. The tag needed something more, though, so I used a fine embossing pen to draw a narrow border on it & heat embossed that with gold powder before stamping and embossing the sentiment from SU’s ‘daffodil daydreams’.

Thanks for dropping in. No sign of me getting out of isolation yet as I’m still testing positive for Covid today, but at least I can craft to keep my sanity!
