Hello crafty friends. It’s time for our next theme at Alphabet Challenge – we’re up to R and Debbie has opted for cards and projects that are red. That’s such a great choice of colour for this time of year! I recently did a very CAS card using Julie Hickey’s ‘poinsettia’ stamp & die, so thought I would step it up a bit more for this one. I actually took inspiration from a card Julie made some time ago using her ‘delightful daisy’ set, so CASE’d it in this version and picked up three of the challenge words from Festive Friday‘s inspo list (red, green & gold)

I started by stamping the poinsettia twice and heat embossing it with ‘metallic gold’ powder. I coloured them using ‘festive berries’ Distress Oxide and a water brush before fussy cutting the large one and die cutting the inner bracts. I also stamped several leaves from the set, which I coloured with ‘rustic wilderness’ and die cut.

I cut a piece of smooth card to fit a 5×7 card blank and blended ‘antique linen’ into the centre and ‘festive berries’ around the edge. I then stamped the definition several times in ‘festive berries’ and filled in the spaces with the poinsettia stamp in ‘antique linen’. I then spritzed the whole piece with water and blotted it with kitchen towel for a slightly more distressed look.

I attached the topper to the card blank, then added the poinsettias with foam pads and glued the leaves on either side.

I finished by adding sparkly gold glossies to the centre of the poinsettia and scattered a few red ones around it.

Here’s a close up showing the gold embossing on the poinsettia and more details on the background

Please do come and join us at the Alphabet Challenge. We’d love to see what you create in red – you have until 16th December to play along.
Absolutely gorgeous!
