Claritystamp new design club lookback – girl on a swing #130

Hello crafty friends. Well it’s Sunday again, so time for the next installment in my personal challenge of working back through my Claritystamp new design club issues. This week it’s the ‘girl on a swing’ silhouette stamp from August 2017. I’ve teamed it with the small round backdrop stamp – these are great for creating background images and I have to confess that I do’t use them nearly enough.

I’ve taken inspiration from a couple of challenges. The colour palette is from Global Design Project (bit of a last minute offering ahead of their deadline!) and the new theme from Less is More is ‘silhouette’.

So I started by blending inks into the round backdrop stamp using a small brayer. I don’t have the Stampin’ Up! colours from GDP’s challenge, so substituted the closest ones I have – ‘fancy fuschia’, ‘midnight blue’ and ‘mellow green’ Artistry Inks. Once inked up, I stamped the circle onto a square of white card trimmed to fit a 6×6 card blank.

You can see from this image that I managed to get a line across the green ink when I brayered the pink onto the stamp. I didn’t have a mask the exact size of the circle, so used the outer part of the largest one I had to cover up the lower part of the image. I then used Clarity’s ‘hills’ mask and sponged some more of the green across it to cover the straight line.

I repositioned the mask to protect the top of the circle and then stamped the leafy branch from the Birdhouse Garden set in black Archival ink. I then stamped the girl on the swing, also in black Archival, with the swing ropes coming from the branch.

I attached the piece to the card blank and finished with one of Clarity’s word stickers, which I edged with a black Sharpie pen. You can probably see in the image above that I got a small smudge on the card, which I managed to cover with the sentiment!

Thanks for dropping in. I do wonder whether this card should come with a health & safety warning, as I’m not convinced that branch would be strong enough to hold the swing! That’s probably the subject of a whole different kind of blog though!
