Welcome to my crafty blog, and a second post today (I’m really getting back into the blogging groove now!) It’s Sunday and so I’ve dipped back into Clarity’s new design club again, this time for the heron stamp from March 2017. I have to confess, this is another that’s pushed my out of my comfort zone with shading again – but life’s about learning, isn’t it? I’ve used the sketch layout from the new challenge over at As You See It for this card

I started with one of my constantly growing stash of inky backgrounds – I thought the colour bands on it picked up the stripes on AYSI’s sketch.

I then used the mountain mask from Clarity’s ‘riverside landscape reflection’ set to define the water’s edge with ‘chipped sapphire’ Distress Oxide and a brush, and added ‘speckled egg’ for the mountains.

I stamped the heron into place in black Archival ink and then shaded him using several grey Spectrum Noir pencils. I used the mountain mask and some back ink to sponge a rock into the water for him to stand on and then mounted the whole piece of a layer of black card.

I then stamped the sentiment and flock of birds onto the topper in black Archival ink. I had a piece of the inky background left over, so trimmed it down to fit across my 5×7 card blank and reversed it so that the colours contrasted with the main image.

Thanks for dropping in. I’m bracing myself for another busy week ahead, but first a pile of ironing is beckoning me…!
Fabulous card, Deborah!

What a fabulous card! Love, love, love your inky background and then the way you’ve added definition with the masks. Thank you so much for sharing this with us at As You See It. I think I’ll have to check out Clarity Designs now too. 🙂

I really ‘ache’ to have a go at this design and use some stencils. I’ve not got many oxides so it will be a challenge but once I get my room sorted I’ll have a go. Fab card.

I love it when you get all ink blendy on us, Deborah! This looks fantastic and a perfect background for that heron! I also like how you continued that same theme for the vertical element of the sketch! Thanks for joining us at As You See It Challenges!

Another great use of a mop-up background Deborah – and the shading on the heron is perfect. Thanks for sharing with us over at As You See It!
