sunflowers!

Welcome to my crafty blog. Today’s card uses the retired ‘painted harvest’ set from Stampin’ up! (again!), and I adapted a design I did last week as I liked it so much. I’ve managed to combine three challenges for this card, starting with the inspiration photo and colours from The Card Concept. I’ve teamed it with the diagonal from top right on TicTacToe‘s grid (embossing/free/wood) and the quote on the new challenge from Time Out.

So I started once again with my new favourite technique – inking SU’s ‘pinewood planks’ embossing folder before running a piece fo card through it. I was using a slightly larger card blank this time (5×7) which meant the folder wasn’t quite long enough. I solved that by reinking the folder and lining it up again across the bottom part of the card. It did give me a line across the topper which I thought I could cover up, but more of that shortly.

I stamped the sunflowers three times, using Distress Oxides in ‘mustard seed’ and ‘walnut stain’ and then fussy cut them. I found a piece of black checked paper and added a strip across the embossed card before attaching the sunflowers with foam pads. I had intended to cover the embossed line with the paper, but decided I quite liked the effect so left it visible.

I then stamped and punched out the leafy spray for the set, using ‘mowed lawn’ ink. I was just going to add three sets of leaves, but decided to do a few more – I think there are five now.

I finished by stamping one of the Bible verses from Stampendous onto a spare piece of card using the ‘walnut stain’, and then distressed the edges with the ink and a blending brush so it wasn’t so harsh against the embossed background.

This is going to be winging its way to friends who have recently moved house.

  3. I LOVE this and the technique you used to create your wood background is fabulous! I just used this folder recently and will have to try this out myself! These flowers are some of my favorites (another reminder to get them out!) and you’ve incorporated the ribbon perfectly! So pretty for both the Card Concept and Tic Tac Toe challenges!
