you’ve got a friend

Welcome to my crafty blog. I’ve gone back to Stampin’ Up!’s ‘friends are like seashells’ set for today’s card, but this time made the starfish the star of the show (!) rather than the seashells. That might seem a bit odd, given that I’ve used the sketch and inspiration photo from Fusion Card Challenge where their theme is ‘seashells’, but I spotted a starfish in the jar of shells in the photo so went with it. I’ve also used the diagonal from top left on TicTacToe‘s latest grid, picking up die cut, friend, and yellow.

I started with a piece of Clarity’s ‘Antarctica’ designer card and trimmed it down to fit on an A6 card blank, with a dark teal mount edging two sides. Now I know there aren’t any starfish in Antarctica, but I thought the colours on this card were perfect – it looks like waves washing onto a pink beach with blue sky above it.

I then stamped and die cut the three starfish and some seaweed. I used an embossing ball tool to give the starfish some definition and texture and then brushed ‘mustard seed’ Distress Oxide onto them, before attaching them to the lower corner of the designer card using foam pads.

I finished with one of Claritystamp’s word stickers, mounted on a piece of the dark teal card.

Now I don’t know whether starfish are usually associated with friendship, but there is one who definitely is. My sons were big fans of Spongebob Squarepants when they were younger, and his best friend is…. Patrick Star! He’s not very bright, but he has one essential quality in a friend – loyalty. Perfect!

  1. I agree Deborah, the designer paper definitely looks like waves pounding on the sand. And your tie in with Patrick made me giggle – I watched oodles of Spongebob cartoons with my youngest granddaughter (she’s nearly 16 now) and can still hear Patrick’s voice LOL! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful friendship card with us at the Tic Tac Toe challenge this week!
