you send me soaring

Welcome to my crafty blog. I’m back with a couple more Father’s Day cards – I’m definitely on a roll with this! This first one uses a retired Stampin’ Up! set – ‘Sky’s the Limit’, which was one of the first SU sets I bought. I’ve hung onto it as it’s so useful for masculine cards (I think my father in law has received several variations of it over the years, as he used to be in the RAF!)

I’ve used three of this week’s blog challenges as the basis for this card. I took the TicTacToe grid and went across the top line with wings/sky/square. I used the sketch from CAS Colours & Sketches for the layout, and the colours from Color Throwdown

I started with a square of card, cut down to fit on a 6×6 card blank, and brushed ‘mustard seed’ Distress Oxide across the Claritystamp clouds mask to fill the top right hand corner.

I stamped the sentiment into the lower left corner using black Archival ink. ‘You send me soaring’ is from the ‘Sky’s the Limit’ set and I added ‘Dad’ from the ‘Truly Tailored’ stamp set.

I finished by stamping the plane in Archival ‘shadow grey’ and fussy cutting it, before attaching it to the sky area with foam pads. The sky is a lighter yellow in real life than it appears in these photos – I wasn’t sure how it would look not being blue, but I’m pretty pleased with the result.

This is a 2-for1 blog today, as I made a second card from the TicTacToe grid, this time going down the right hand column with square/embossing/masculine. It’s another straightforward one – I started by embossing a square of brown card with SU’s ‘pinewood planks’ folder and then lightly sprinkled WOW ultra high powder in copper and gold, which I heated. I discovered this technique in a class with Marion Emberson from Sugar & Spice Crafts – it’s a great way to add a little sparkle and so easy to do.

I mounted the wood embossed card onto a piece of gold card and attached it to a 6×6 card blank. I finished by die cutting the gold letters using Julie Hickey’s alphabet dies and popped them on the card with foam pads. Nice and simple, but very effective!

  1. Well, talk about over-achiever lol! Two goes on my TTT grid and a great take on the CC&S sketch too – and I love the colour combo thrown in too!! Great job on all counts – you are clearly on a masculine roll!

  3. Congrats on your card being selected by CAS for their challenge. They made a good choice in my opinion. I absolutely love your card layout and your use of the three challenges to pull it all together. I’ve never been able to part with my Sky’s the Limit stamp set either, and now I’ll be dusting it off and trying your technique albeit I’ll be using a scalloped circle to create my clouds instead of a mask. So wonderful and inspiring.
