Welcome to my crafty blog. Today’s card picks up the title of one of the best loved Christmas carols. Despite singing it every year, I knew very little about it’s history, so did a quick bit of research on the BBC website. ‘Silent Night’ originates from Germany and was first performed on Christmas Eve, 1818. It began life as a poem, written in 1816 by Father Joseph Mohr. Two years later, his friend Franz Gruber set the poem to music and the pair first sang the carol at midnight mass on Christmas Eve. Apparently it’s been translated into over 300 languages since then and is known across much of the world.

I recently bought these fabulous stamps from Crafty Individuals – I love the script on the ‘silent night’. I started by stamping both the Bethlehem scene and the sentiment on a black card blank, and then embossing them with Wow ‘metallic platinum’ powder (I do think this is my all time favourite powder colour)

I wanted to add some colour to the town, which is a bit difficult on black card. I used ‘Perfect Pearls’ mica powder, which you can mix with water to make a paint, and then highlighted some of the roofs and buildings. It has a lovely shimmer on it, although that doesn’t show up in the photo

Because the stamp is so intricate, it really doesn’t need anything else adding to it. Now at this point, I should probably mention that the black was going to be my alternative card (I thought it picked up the night theme)., as I initially made it on white card ready for a blog challenge, only to find that I was a day late when I came to upload it! Never mind, here it is anyway (I watercoloured this one with inks, rather than using the mica powder.
