Nesting birds

Welcome to my crafty blog. Today’s card is one I’ve made for friends who are expecting their first baby. I think this set from Stampin’ Up! (Birds and Branches) is just perfect for these cards. I’ve made several with them already – I just love the eggs in the nest!

I’ve used a couple of design challenges this week as the inspiration for the card. Freshly Made Sketches has this great design (https://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/)

and I took the colours from the Color Throwdown Challenge (https://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/)

I started with the green colours, first cutting cut the circular die from the Stampin Up! set, and then two more circles in lighter shades using the increasing sizes from a set of nested circular dies.

I then stamped & cut out the two birds in grey, the nest in a kraft colour, and the eggs in a pale green.

All I then needed to do was mount them onto the card, to sit over the right lower part of the circle

I had no idea what birds they might be in grey and white, so decided to do a little research. The nearest I could find (thanks to the RSPB website) is a bird called the pied flycatcher, which is a migratory visitor to the UK in the summer (I told you last time that crafting is educational!).

Pied flycatcher (male)

If you’ve got time, follow this link to the RSPB website – there’s a gorgeous recording of the pied flycatcher’s song (https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/bird-a-z/pied-flycatcher/). Enjoy!
