Sarah’s rainbow leaves

Hello everyone. I’ve got a rather poignant card to share with you today, as we’re celebrating Sarah Brennan, our wonderful Clarity design team friend, who sadly passed away unexpectedly earlier this month. We’re flooding the Clarity Facebook pages with cards inspired by Sarah’s style – and one thing she loved and was well known for in the team was her penchant for using rainbow colours! So, here’s my offering using the Stripey Flowers set from the Big Blooms collection, which I’ve CASE’d from one of her designs – you can check out the original on her blog here.

Like Sarah, I’ve done this as a one layer card using a 5×5 card blank. I started by running a length of low tack tape across the bottom of the card, marked the centre of the card on the tape, and then stamped the smaller leaf in ‘rustic wilderness’ Distress Oxide.

I covered the leaves with the pre-cut masks from the stamp set, then stamped it again on either side using ‘mustard seed’ to the left and ‘salty ocean’ to the right. Having the low tack tape across the bottom meant I could also vary the height of the leaves.

I carried on working outwards with my rainbow of colours and masking each set of leaves before stamping the next one until I’d got all seven in place. From left to right I used ‘festive berries’, ‘carved pumpkin’, ‘mustard seed’, ‘rustic wilderness’, ‘salty ocean’, ‘chipped sapphire’ and ‘wilted violet’, all Distress Oxides. I also added a little shading to each of them with Polychromo pencils.

To finish, I simply doodled the ground to anchor the leaves with a micron pen, then added the sentiment from the set in black Archival ink.

I’ve realised on looking again that Sarah’s original card used the leaves from the smaller stamp set, which is why mine overlap and hers didn’t! It was nice to put my own take on this, but we will really miss her rainbow designs in future.

I’m going to share Sarah’s style with a couple of current challenges. Colorful Options always have a rainbow option and this card also fits the brief at Simply Clean & Simple.
