Joanne’s sketch at CAS Colours & Sketches 589

Hello everyone. Well I’m firmly back in my usual CAS zone today after yesterday’s arty journey, with another look at the new Tree Canopy Scene stamps today, this time making use of Joanne’s sketch for our new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. I had to think about this one a bit, but then had a ‘lightbulb’ moment to use the little stag in place of the star, against a copse of trees for the square, with the ground reaching out either side! Read on and tell me what you think…

I started with a 4.5″ square of premium card and stamped the small stag into place with ‘vintage photo’ Archival ink. I cut a tiny mask for him from Clarity’s blank material, covered him over and then stamped the group of small trees behind him in ‘shadow grey’.

Next was to add the tree canopies in ‘vivid chartreuse’, adding a few of the little ground stamps as well – I went with second generation for the ones in the background.

I wanted to anchor my little scene onto the card, so found the right size of stencil piece in the Square Aperture Mat and used that with a ball tool to emboss a frame around my images.

I added one of the Art Deco Sentiments and a layer of Shenandoah companion paper before simply attaching it to a 5×5 card blank.

So, what do you think of my slightly alternative take on Joanne’s sketch? Check out the rest of the design team inspiration over on the CAS Colours & Sketches blog and then we do hope you’ll come an play along with this fab little layout. Just remember to keep your designs clean & simple, with white (non-patterned) space.

I’m now off to share this one in the challenges at We Love Stamping and Simply Clean & Simple, taking the ‘anything goes’ option from both.
