Masking the sketch at As You See It challenge 374

Hello crafty friends! It’s Friday and time for a new sketch over at As You See It Challenge – I love the simplicity of this one, which is right up my CAS street! I’ve opted for a stripped back design this time round, just with a bit of masking thanks to the Build a Scene set and a Moon Mask.

Taking a 3.5″ square of premium card, I laid the outer part of the largest Moon Mask onto it, covered the areas I wanted to avoid with low tack tape and blended ‘carved pumpkin’ & ‘picked raspberry’ Distress Oxides into it to create a sunset scene. Moving the strip of tape, I added ‘stormy sky’ across the bottom area to create the sea.

I found the trees mask on the Tuscany sheet of the Build a Scene masks, laid it over my sunset circle (again with a strip of low tack tape for the lower edge) and sponged back Archival ink into it.

I then turned to my 5×5 card blank to emboss a frame onto it with a square embedder and a small ball tool – if you haven’t seen these, you attach the plastic embedder on the front of the card with a bit of low tack tape, then flip to the inside and emboss around the edges with the ball tool.

Having prepped my card base, I ran a black Sharpie around the topper edges and attached it within the frame. I finished with one of the curved Celebration Sentiment Rounds – it was a bit longer than I had room for, so I covered the final word (‘today) with low tack tape before inking it, then stamped the shortened version around the edge of my sunset circle.

There’s more inspiration from my design teamies over on the AYSI blog page and we’d then love to see your interpretation of our sketch in the gallery.

I’m going to pop this one into a few other galleries too, starting with Color Dare whose colour scheme I used. My summer sunset also works for the theme at The Four Seasons and is a second contribution to The Male Room’s ‘outdoors’ challenge.
