Hello crafty friends and welcome to another Seasonal Saturday card! Our theme this week at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is ‘mug’ – and who doesn’t love a warming mug of hot coffee or chocolate in the chill of winter? I remembered that there was a floral mug stamp in Linda’s Visit, Sit, Stay, Drink and decided that I could turn the flowers into poinsettia, sitting them on a shelf decorated with the Winter Build a Wreath stamps.

Having cut a piece of card down to fit on an A6 blank, I started to build the shelf for my mugs, first drawing a pencil guideline and then stamping the holly & ivy images from the Build a Wreath set in ‘pine green’ and ‘peeled paint’ Distress inks, respectively. I then filled it out with one of the leafy sprays (in second generation ‘pine needles’) and then scattered a few of the small poinsettia stamps along it, using ‘fired brick’ Distress Ink.

I wanted to sit the mugs within the floral swag, but it was difficult to mask off. I came up with a solution of using small bits of low tack tape, placing the torn edges along the outline of the leaves. I then stamped the first mug into place with black Archival ink, masked that off and added a second one to sit behind it.

I shaded in the mugs using a red Polychromo pencil for the poinsettia and a pale grey to add a little shadow so the look curved. Having stamped the Art Deco sentiment, I added a narrow mount of green Amazonia companion paper and attached it to the A6 card blank.

These mugs are a bit of a different design from the usual Christmas cards, but I think it’s fun! You can check out the inspiration from my design team-mates over on the 52 CCT blog, and then come and join in. I’m also going to share this one with Holly & Ivy, Christmas Crafts All Year Round (my hot drinks pick up their letter H) and Double D who are looking for tea or coffee on our cards.
