Japanese trees

Hello crafty friends! Well it’s been a beautifully sunny day down here in Somerset, so I thought I’d share another of my samples that I made using the Mini Japanese Scene Builder stamps – this time with the ‘Trees’ set.

I went for a simple scene just using the two tree stamps (the outline and the infill) and first worked on my background. I laid the outer part of the largest moon mask onto a 3.5″ square of stencil card and brushed ‘speckled egg’, ‘tattered rose’ and ‘peeled paint’ Distress Oxides across it.

Next was to stamp the trees outline with black Archival ink, then I added the infill to the image, again in black. My positioning was a bit off, and I managed to stamp that one too high, so I had a gap along their bottom edges! Rather than throw the whole thing in the bin, I decided to make a feature of it and shaded in the gap with the ‘earth green yellowish’ Polychromo pencil – and I rather like the effect! I used a black Micron pen to extend the line for the land out through either side of the circle, then created the effect of the sea by adding a little of the ‘speckled egg’ with a waterbrush over the blended ink.

I popped in a little trio of birds from the Just Woodland stamp set, plus one of the Art Deco sentiments, before using a square embedder and a ball tool to emboss a frame around the edge of the topper. I then simply added a mount of Indian Summer companion paper and attached it to a 5×5 card blank.

I’m very late posting this today – it’s been a busy day and I forgot to schedule it earlier! Probably down to my advancing years! Anyway, I’m going to share this with Simply Clean & Simple challenge and I’ll be back with another creative offering tomorrow.
