Y for yellow flowers at Alphabet Challenge

Hello everyone. Time for our next theme at Alphabet Challenge – we’ve reached Y and Caz has opted for Yellow Flowers, a perfect theme for spring. Now you all know that I am a big fan of the Build a Wreath stamps so I didn’t have to think too hard to get them out! As it happens, a good friend of mine also had a major birthday this week, so the Open Numbers masks gave me the design for her card.

I started by embossing an inner frame onto 5″ square piece of card using an embedder and a ball tool. I drew a pencil guideline down the centre and the got the number masks into place. I love the design of these, with the small gap down the centre of the numbers, which means each mask is in two parts so you do need to take care in lining them up.

Once I’d got the masks into place, I ran low tack tape down each side to protect the embossed frame and set about surrounding the numbers with flowers. I took two of the flowers from the Spring Build a Wreath set, mounted them on stamp pens and began to fill in the space – I went with ‘squeezed lemonade’ Distress Oxide for the daisy stamp and ‘dried marigold’ for other one, then broke up the onslaught of yellows with a leafy spray and ‘mowed lawn’.

I love the clean lines of this when you lift the masks off. I stamped the sentiment from the new Little SHAC Birds set (it was still on my desk from the other day!) in ‘watering can’ Archival, added a mount of yellow companion paper and attached it to a 6×6 card blank.

I’ve made a few cards recently with these numbers masks – they are ideal for ‘big’ birthdays, and I’m happy to report my friend was delighted with her card! I’m going to share it a bit further as well, as I picked up the ‘shades of yellow and one other colour’ theme at Color Dare, and the yellow & green floral moodboard at Beautiful Blossoms.
