Colourful little SHAC birds at CAS Colours & Sketches #582

Hello there. It’s Tuesday and time for our new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches, which I got to choose! I’ve gone for a bright and fun palette this time round, which I decided would work beautifully with the cute new Little SHAC Birds stamps – these fab little characters were originally drawn by Barbara Gray in one of her online SHAC (Safe, Happy & Creative) sessions.

I cut a 4.5″ square topper to start with and stamped the little trio of birds on a tree, together with the sentiment as a base. I was trying to think how best to ‘ground’ the tree and opted for one of the Build a Scene masks, sponging ‘lucky clover’ Distress Oxide across it.

Next was to shade in my birds and their foliage with my trusty Polychromo pencils, using ‘permanent green olive’, ‘cobalt green’ and ‘madder’.

I was going to finish it there, but felt that the image needed balancing a bit more on the right, so added in one of the single birds, stamping him on the ground and use the same colours to shade him in. I then simply ran a black Sharpie around the edges of the topper and attached it to a 5×5 card blank.

What do you think of these fun little birds? I think they’re going to prove to be a favourite set for me – they’re just so expressive! Come on over to CAS Colours & Sketches and join in the creativity – I’d love to see how you use the colour palette I put together.

I’m going to share this card with another challenge at Seize the Birthday for their ‘anything goes’ option.
