Santa’s sketch at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown 26-09

Hello crafty friends and welcome to this week’s Seasonal Saturday post, with our new sketch at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. I opted not to go down the obvious Christmas tree route, instead turning to the Father Christmas stamps from Linda’s Christmas Compendium.

I haven’t used any of the inky mop-up backgrounds from my stash for a while so, having found one with shades of green (I think it was from cleaning my brayer), I stamped the small Santa and heat embossed him with WOW’s superfine gold powder.

Having masked the Santa, I added some holly leaves below him using one of the Big Blooms stencils, brushing ‘rustic wilderness’ Distress Oxide through it. I shaded him in using a couple of green Polychromo pencils, which I smoothed out using Dorso oil and a blending nib, with ‘green gold’ for the toys in his sack and the lamplight, before whitening the fur on this outfit with a Posca pen.

I decided that the holly leaves needed filling in a bit more, so added them in the gaps using the stencil and ‘rustic wilderness’, then stamped the smallest star from Linda’s Wish Upon a Star set several times, heat embossing them in gold. I couldn’t find a sentiment I liked that fitted, so I went a bit rogue on the sketch and left it off, simply adding a narrow mount of Amazonia companion paper before attaching it to a 5×5 card blank.

Here’s a closer look at the lovely gold embossing.

As ever, our challenge runs until Friday, before our next theme on Saturday, so do come on over and play along with our sketch. I’ve incorporated a couple of other challenges into this card, taking the tones from Color Hues and the ‘anything goes’ theme from Peace on Earth
