January sketch #577 at CAS Colours & Sketches

Hello crafty friends. I’ve got our next challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches to share with you today and it’s a sketch from Nancy. I still had the new Art Deco Special Day Sentiments out on my desk, so it was another good excuse to play with them and my favourite clouds mask!

I first cut a piece of stencil card slightly smaller than my 6×6 card blank, then brushed ‘tumbled glass’ Distress Oxide across the clouds mask to pick up the corner triangle in Nancy’s sketch. I find the trick when using the mask is to brush the ink upwards from it (working from the top down), giving you the effect of the white clouds, and to move the mask left and right on the card to offset the images – you never get clouds in regular striped lines, do you?

It was then a simple matter of adding the flowers from the Art Deco Special Day set, this time in ‘broken china’ and grounding them by sponging a little of the ‘tumbled glass’ across torn copy paper. I finished with one of the Art Deco Sentiments, again in the ‘tumbled glass’.

There’s lots of way to interpret our sketch (you can rotate or flip it, if you want) so come and show us how you you’ve been inspired by it in the CAS Colours & Sketches gallery – and there’s more inspiration from my design team-mates in the blog too. Meanwhile, I’m sharing this version with Color Hues for their blue & white theme and with Triple B as a ‘blooms’ contribution.
