Neutral Night colours at As You See It challenge 363

Hello everyone. I’m back with a second card today for our new colour challenge at As You See It – Jane has given us a great palette to play with. I decided to get my Build a Scene Landscape masks out and create a scene with Santa passing by on his annual trip around the world.

I worked directly onto a 6×6 card blank for this one, masking off the outer edges with low tack tape. I went with the ‘Black Forest’ set of masks from the set, laying the mountains down first, adding a moon mask and then brushing ‘chipped sapphire’ Distress Oxide into the sky.

I lifted the moon mask, covered the sky with the top mountains mask and then moved the mountains piece down twice, each time brushing ‘gathered twigs’ Distress Oxide across it and sponging a little ‘peeled paint’ to add shading.

Having done the mountains, I brushed ‘peeled paint’ across the bottom part for my ground, then sponged more of it across the trees section of the masks to create my little forest, moving it a couple of times.

I added Santa and the reindeer into the sky with black Archival ink – there are only two reindeer on this image from the Build a Landscape – Christmas set so, after stamping them once, I used low tack tape to mask off Santa, reinked the two reindeer and added them onto the front, together with a tiny red dot from a Posca pen for Rudolph’s nose. I have to confess that I pressed a bit too hard on this second stamping, so Rudolph looks a bit chunky (he’s probably snaffled all the mince pies on his round the world trip!) The final stamp was from the I Am Essential – Christmas sentiments.

I think this is a great palette to play with, and there’s lots more inspiration from my design team-mates over at As You See It. I’m going to also share this with Stamping Sensations – their theme is ‘fantasy’ (fairies, elves & all things magical). Now I clearly can’t explain exactly why this card fits that (no Christmas spoilers here!) but if you know, you’ll know!!
