Peace at As You See It Challenge 362

Hello again. I’m back with a second card – this one is a demo from this afternoon’s Clarity Social TV show, using the Peace Framer stamp set and inspired by our new layout at As You See It. At first glance, the sketch looks like it’s designed for layers of patterned paper, but I decided instead to go for stencilling to create the shapes using a couple of Clarity’s A4 aperture mat stencils. These are so useful, as each mat has several different sized apertures in it, plus they come with the cut out pieces too which work as masks in the stencils or as multi sized embedders!

So, here’s the process… I cut a square of stencil card (approx 14cm), stamped the Peace Framer onto it and covered the centre of the C with the pre-cut mask that comes with the stamps. I then lined up one of the apertures in the square mat, masking off the other openings with low tack tape and sticky notes, so that I could brush ‘salvaged patina’ Distress Oxide through it. Once done, I ran round the inside of the square with a black micron pen, then slotted the cut out piece of stencil into the aperture with folded over low tack tape underneath to hold it in place. I could then remove the large aperture mat.

Next was to line up one of the apertures from the rectangle mat, offset from the first square. I brushed ‘evergreen bough’ through this one, then again ran round the inside with a micron pen and slotted the cut out piece into it to act as a mask.

I repeated the process a third time with another of the rectangle apertures. This one wasn’t long enough, so I did the top part first with ‘lucky clover’, then move the mat downwards to repeat it at the bottom. That felt like a lot of work to describe, but actually it was quite straightforward once I’d figured out my process!

Having removed the mask from the stamp, I added the cabin in ‘watering can’ Archival and the trees with ‘library green’, then sponged a little more of the ‘salvaged patina’ to soften the white of the card. I added a mount of Amazonia companion paper and attached it to a 7×7 card blank. I wanted a word sticker to finish with and found one in the KISS set – it actually says ‘peace at Christmas’, but I cut the first word off!

I’m really pleased with the effect of the stencilled shapes on the background. It would work on a smaller card too (just thinking about the postage costs!) by adjusting the size of the apertures I used. And given the amount of stencilling on this, I’m going to share it at Just Add Ink and Stencil Fun.
